Draco Oh, before we forget Dr. Draco Lucius Malfoy, Chief Healer at St. Mungos became 28 years of age today. something that did not went by unnoticed: not bad for a two year old, neh. ( excuse me, Scorreh, AlMOST two and a half,) | | 8:55 pm |
not again....!!!! Quote: J.K. Rowling has just filed a lawsuit against the publisher of the London Star Map, PerezHilton.com has learned.
The celebrity map reportedly has details of the Harry Potter author's London residence and clear instructions on how to get there, something Rowling considers 'a gross invasion of privacy'.
In a statement, J.K. Rowling said, "The sole aim of London Star Map is self-evidently to incite, encourage and enable members of the public to track down and locate the exact location of private residences of various recognisable "celebrities" so that they can visit those residences." Rowling continued, "I'm a very private individual who regards my family's privacy and safety as having paramount importance.Source: perezhiltondotcomIs this true? And does anyone has an other source on this then that site that looks awefull gossipy and unreliable. I picked it up at Muggle and thought: "Not again! Is she practising a sort of hobby or so and is having aspiration to become the Mary Whitehouse of the 21st century?" Then I started Googling and found out that there was only one source for this, so I got a bit suspicious. It's a bit too easy to beef up her nickname as Courtroom Jo with lies and slander. But on the other hand it is not the kind of case that contrasts with her character. | | Thursday, May 29th, 2008 | | 12:20 pm |
only for the few Rowling by now so mindset to control her created universe that she no longer write for the general millionswide public but for the happy and wealthy few? I always thought the period between ch 1 and ch 2 of Philosophers Stone was the most irreal part of the whole story: unless you believe that child abuse for ten years going unnoticed by the schoolnurse is standard. So elaborating that part is the last I was waiting for. stop fidling around in the name of charity, lady, and start the real work you keep dangling around, meaning your Encyclopedia. What am I nagging about? this: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/24863211/She wrote an 800 letter piece about Harry Potter in the years before Hogwarts. A good moment to ventilate my utter dislike with that same period as being more unbelievable and with less connection to reality then the flight of a hippogryph. Obvious I am not the only one who as not that much pleased with the news: quote: almightytallestvoldy at Mugglenett You know what? As more time goes on, the more JK makes me HATE charities. >_< . . . I used to be for them (and technically still am I suppose), but she keeps writing things exclusively for them, and it's going to drive me mad. Are WE ever going to be able to read this? And the Tales of Beedle the Bard? etc. Or are the loyal fans who have been reading these books and watching these movies, who aren't billionaires just not good enough for her? o_O | | Saturday, May 24th, 2008 | | 8:47 pm |
EUROVISION SONGFESTIVAL Eurovisionsongfestival tonight. The Netherlands got kicked out in the first round of the semfinal. Did I bother? No not much. Do I bother with the whole chebang at all? well this is the Russian contender. second time, btw last time in 2006. Now it gets interesting. only on the other net there is classic recital going on. and that sounds far more pleasant to my ears. | | Wednesday, May 21st, 2008 | | 12:59 am |

elections What to think about this? This month there were elections for the Company Counsil, I don't know if this is the correct English term for it, but it's a body of representatives of the company that counsils the direction. Now there had been 350 people that could bring out a vote on two candidates, one of the candidates is working at my own location, the other quite unknown to us.
However of those 350 possible votes only 26 were cast. 16 for the candidate of my location 11 for the other guy and of those 11 at least half of it can be traced as been cast by collegues of my location including me. I must add that I only knew a collegue of me was candidate when the voting letter dropped on my doorstep. Campaigning for the Compagny Counsil isn't as thrilling as the Obama or the Hillary campaign.
Just what kind of impression does this figures make on an outsider? | | Tuesday, May 13th, 2008 | | 1:55 pm |
OA 537 Rumors that Lord Lucius Marius of Malfoy took a sabbatical year at a North Sea spa of unknown location, during the period between early June 1996 and June 1997 taking a health cure to recuperate from an eye infection caught four years before , turn out to by highly suspicious. If Lord Malfoy has been here for his health, the methods of curating the obscure disease Caperifungicyclopi are Mugglelish barbaric. We may assume that his devoted spouse, the elegant and beautiful Mrs.Narcissa Malfoy, ne Black, will file a reasonable complaint for medical malpractice against the responsible authorities. I just had to know what the runes stood for: well actually nothing, Poor Lucius, those Gryffindork Aurors have no class at all. the high res picture is herebtw. To spoil and not to spoil Q. And, does that factor into your opinion of the quality of the book? A. Yeah, absolutely. There is a tremendous amount of plot that is revealed in the entries in the Lexicon. For example, if you look at the entry for Dumbledore you get not just a description of who the character is but exactly what happens to the character and other key plot points that are throughout the books.Suzanne Murphy, vice president and publisher of trade publishing and marketing at Scholastic. At the JKR vs RDR trial in the direct examination by Cendali Now lets have a look at an entry on ( ”Dumbledore” )---------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------- -------- On an entry of about 500 words I count more spoilers then I ever had on a moterbike coming to about seven. Mrs Murphy is completely right, far too much spoiling for a descriptiuon of a character. Only this excerpt is from Field Guild to Harry Potter By Colin Duriez ©2007 IVP Books A book mentioned in the trial and not attacked by JKR & Warner Brs, A booklet that has on its cover *Includes handy plot summeries for each book in the series. And it is not an excerpt from the Lexicon. Of the 300 pages a third is an A-Z to the HP items, one third in an intro to JKR and a discussion on all kind of themes while it becomes somewhat long winding of the Christian layers under the story. It for instance makes straight comparison between Jesus in Getsemane(Matheus 26, Markus 14) and Dumbledore in the cave of the Inferi. A lesser part is dedicates to an overvieuw of the books and a timeline. I am completely surpriced that, this book containing all the elements that made JKR dead set against the Mugglenet book and the Lexicon book was let untouched. remember the Mugglenet book was not even written when they were ordered to stop and the Lexicon manuscript was only after the filing or the trial available to JKR&Warner. I order that book by Internet because I was curious. now I get the feeling that double standarding is standard in HP world. Curious about the entry on Snape? well I'll ( spoil you with Severus ) | | Saturday, April 26th, 2008 | | 3:57 pm |
CAKE Did you know that for a child having a hand full of raisins, pieces of chocolate, ounces of flour, chunks of butter and a few eggs displayed on the kitchen table is exactly the same as tasting a browny cake? No? But the child can pick the raisins, take a lick of butter, nibble the chocolate, play with the flour. For short enjoy all those ingredients while mummy is busy on the phone or doing something else very important. When she puts a handfull of birthday candles next to it, the kid even can throw a birthday party, sharing that stuff with his or her friends. Do you think I am foolish and don't know how to treat a child? well ( Read more... )Just a thought that occured to me. | | 2:31 am |
TIMETABLE In one on my responses at elanora's post I said I needed a Timetable about the whole JKR versus RDR case. Not to proove something, but just because I realised how soddy plain memory can be. In retrospect it looks as if the decision of JK Rowling to write a Harry Potter encyclopedia is as certain as the white cliffs of Dover. But I had a hell of a time tracing back the moment she actually made that statement. To be honest after digging through the news archives of The Leaky Cauldron and of MuggleNet I did not find such a clearcut statement. It's only after the case started running there is a moment I could conclude for ceratin JKR is intending to write an encyclopedia and that is during the Pottercast intervieuw of december 18. There were a few entries headed with "News on the Encyclopedia", but when reading the source of that news linked to it was still a lot of "might be" and "maybe" and "someday". Searching between july 21 and oktober 31, the day the lawsuit against RDR was filed I neither could find an announchment of RDR intending to publish the Lexicon, but from the entries at TLC and Mugglenet at okt 31 it can be concluded that this was publicly known already. So I missed a few spots. I like the timetable complete, so any help pointing out entries on this is welcome. Below the cut a compilation of entries, including the rumors on writing and the news of the suits filed between the release of Deathly Hallows and filing of the RDR suit. I dunno but 3 courtcases in 102 days on various subjects, I am tempted to speak of 'Courtroom Jo' in stead of JK Rowling. ( Read more... ) | | Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008 | | 12:37 am |
and the award goes to...... " I am not sure we should do this." " Why not, Potter, that judge looks like a very wise man to me." " But would it not be unsupportive to JKR." " What has wise judgement to do with supportiveness?" " Well don't we own it to Jo, she gave our world shape." " She gave you a cupboard under the stair the first 11 years of your life." " You just say that because she doesn't like you. " " As if I care, as long as you like me enough to love me." " It's more the other way around, loving you doesn't always mean liking you. Maybe we should tell her." " Are you nutters? It would be in the Daily Prophet within the hour and everybody will start calling me Potter's Pet on the Internet. I did not make it to Chief-Healer of St.Mungo because I am so likable, but because I am the best and certainly because I jumped a bangwagon. " She said we never be friends." " Which prooves she isn't always right." I have a question that cropped up reading the court transscripts: Harry Potter got protection against the Avada Kedavra curse thanks to the sacrifies his mother made. This protection residented in his blood, but the protection would be lifted as soon as he became of age at 17. now Rowling says this: The key point is that Voldemort is keeping alive in 7 his own body the sacrifice that Harry's mother made for him 8 17 -- 16 years previously ( (212) 805-0300 pg 149 84EVWAR5 ) Now this is the same magic that stopped working for Harry when becoming a man, but is still working in Voldemort ( thanks to " blood of an enemy, forfully taken")? I don't understand how the same magic can stop working in one body but stiil active in the other. JKR makes a big issue over not understanding the key point of her novel, but to me it starts to look like a key plot hole. From the first reading that whole surviving issue did not ring right to me. FRom HBP on it is explained that Voldemort cannot die because of the Horcruxes, which it the motic of the external soul. Now in a New York courtroom is reveiled that Lilly's sacrifice was effectively also a Horcrux? | | Thursday, April 3rd, 2008 | | 8:36 am |
Malfoy in the morning some random facts about Scorpius Regulus Malfoy ( Read more... )I was not quite satisfied with my previous imaging of Scorpius using the Poser model V4, the face had too much femininity in it. with the new model V4.2M it got rid of that but now he looks almost grown up. | | Sunday, March 23rd, 2008 | | 3:38 pm |
春の雪 春の雪 (Yuki no haru)well... it's not Japanese for Happy Easter, but the title of a book by Mishima. It however could be appropiate, cause it means Springsnow at that what it's doing right now; Snow at Easter Sunday. but then there are either desperate loves dying in the snow at the doorstep ( as in that book), so I better hand out the Easter Eggs ( Read more... )and this is how the day looks from my window..... isn't it nice? goodbye Leaky I definitely removed the Leaky Cauldron from my favorites list. since reacting to the news about Rowlings raving against RDR with a post that contained a juridical analysis by a certain Tim Wu, my posts there keep bouncing, when I post from home. I did once from work that got in.
Pitty, that one of the leading HP fansites is stooping to pettiness and sycophantism by blocking sounds that, at least, try to be objective.
In retrospect just wondering why I wasted time among immature juviniles. | | Wednesday, January 16th, 2008 | | 9:35 pm |
mathematical Harry Potter problem thanks to a reaction on one of the HP sites I am breaking my head over a question of population growth.
Someone got very excited about the fact that both Voldemort and Harry had a Peverell in the ancestry: "THEY ARE RELATED!!!" was the reaction.
Well big deal, the Peverells seemed to have predated Hogwarts and thereby lived in the midth of the Saxonian period of England or earlier, give or take 40 generations separeted them from Harry Potter. By that time there are so many people that decent from a Peverell you can hardly speak of being related anymore.
I wanted to know how many that could be. in numbers so i started calculating:
say a wizard couple has on average three children that produce off spring, they may ahve more children or less, some might be squibs, but just the ones that produce wizard children count. Off course they don't live eternally, so lets estimate that by the time the greatgrandchildren are born the couples are dead.
so 0th generation 2 people 1st generation 5 people ( 2 + 3 ) 2nd generation 10 people ( 2 + 3 + 5 ) 3th generation 14 people ( -2 + 3 + 5 + 6) etc the total of living wizard is the sum of the last three generation.
but following this lead I got to 46.686.514 wizard after 40 generation.... 46 million is a bit too rich, the total population of the UK is 60 million.
Any one a better formula?
Because obvious I doing something completely wrong, because 80% of England isn't a wizard, more likely 0,8 % is in the world as created by JKR.
any help is welcome, preferable usable in Excel. | | Friday, January 11th, 2008 | | 10:56 pm |
that's a long time I was at IJ, but it's just because I saw a movie on the tellie tonight, that reminded me I had some Danish friends stocked some wherr.
I was watching "Smilla sense of snow" And after some time I thought I recognized some background as being Copenhagen, if not I would have turned it off, because it was not that great a movie. It was indeed Copenhagen in the snow during Christmas. Think there was even a shot at the same kay, my hotel was two years ago.
But it clearly was not a Danish director who had taken this movie. There were Christmas trees in almost every appartment, but something was missing:
no Danebrog decorations and after having seen TG's Christmas trees on the net a few times I am convinced a Danish Christmastree without Danebrog deco is not a Danish Christmas tree.
Am I right? |
