To spoil and not to spoil Q. And, does that factor into your opinion of the quality of the book? A. Yeah, absolutely. There is a tremendous amount of plot that is revealed in the entries in the Lexicon. For example, if you look at the entry for Dumbledore you get not just a description of who the character is but exactly what happens to the character and other key plot points that are throughout the books.

Now lets have a look at an entry on : --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dumbledore, Albus Percival Wulfric Brian. Headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft an Wizardry until he is killed at the end of Harry's sixth year by Seversu Snape, when Hogwarts was attacked by death Eaters brought in by Draco. He is in the literary tradition of Thomas Malory's Merlin and J.R.R.Tolkiens Gandalf. In the stories he is the only wizard feared by Voldemort. His Living quarters and office are at the top of one of Hogwarts' towers. A gargolye protects the entrance to the escalating stairs to his office . He was a friend and associate of the long-living alchemist Nicolas Flamel, whose philosopher's stone* is at the center of the first Harry Potter story.
As a child Dumbledore is prodigously talented, and wins many prizes at school. He has a sister, Ariana and a brother, Aberforth. His father, Percival, is sent to Azkaban for attacking some Muggle youths who traumatized Albus' young sister, thwarting her magical development. The family settles in Godric's Hollow* home of mant wizading families. His mother dies at the hand of the unbalanced Ariana, forcing Albus to abondon plans for a grand tour of the world in order to look aftyer his family. He becomse friendly wit a foreign wizard, Gellert Grindelwald* and briefly flirts with his ideas about wizards taking over the Mugle world " for the greater good". Albus parts with Grindelwald after a savage argument between the two, in which Aberforth is also involded . During the fight Ariana is accidently killed. He therafter abondons any pursuit of power and devotes himself to teaching at Hogwarts, developing ideals of wholeness and diversity and the protection of Muggles. During the rise of Voldemort, ALbus creates the original Order of the Phoenix, in which Harry's parents, Sirius, Neville's parents and many others participate. When Harry first meets him, he is of great age, tall and thin. His silver hair and beard are long enough to be tucked into his belt. Bright blue eyes peer through half-moon spectacles. His long nose is crooked, partly as a result of being broking long ago at his sister's funeral by the angry Aberforth. When we are introduced to him in SS he is wearing a purple cloak and high-heeled boots with distinctive buckles on them. When younger he has auburn hair and beard. He confesses to reading Muggle magazines if he gets the opportunity and to liking knitting patterns.
In HBP Harry effectively becomes an apprentice of Dumbledore and he is alsreay a mentor thoughout the earlier books. He knows that Harry bears a piece of Voldemort's soul as a result of Voldemort's failure to kill Harry and that Harry will have to die in order for Voldemort to be destroyed. Albus prepares Hary for making the choice of self-scrisfice for his friends.
As Bold is his trust in Severus Snape, that he will protect Harry while convincing Voldemorts that he is his faithfull servant and spy in Hogwarts. In all seriousness of dealing with Voldemort's wickedness, Albus remains light-hearted adn often humorous. A.O.Scott comments:" Dumbledore's benevolent but strict theology, involving the operations of free will in a supernaturally determined world, is classicly Miltonian." "Dumbledore" is an Early English word for bumblebee. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- On an entry of about 500 words I count more spoilers then I ever had on a moterbike coming to about seven. Mrs Murphy is completely right, far too much spoiling for a descriptiuon of a character.
A book mentioned in the trial and not attacked by JKR & Warner Brs, A booklet that has on its cover *Includes handy plot summeries for each book in the series.
And it is not an excerpt from the Lexicon. Of the 300 pages a third is an A-Z to the HP items, one third in an intro to JKR and a discussion on all kind of themes while it becomes somewhat long winding of the Christian layers under the story. It for instance makes straight comparison between Jesus in Getsemane(Matheus 26, Markus 14) and Dumbledore in the cave of the Inferi. A lesser part is dedicates to an overvieuw of the books and a timeline.
I am completely surpriced that, this book containing all the elements that made JKR dead set against the Mugglenet book and the Lexicon book was let untouched. remember the Mugglenet book was not even written when they were ordered to stop and the Lexicon manuscript was only after the filing or the trial available to JKR&Warner.
I order that book by Internet because I was curious. now I get the feeling that double standarding is standard in HP world.
Curious about the entry on Snape? well I'll
Snape, Severus. Hogwarts* Potion master, he is head of Slytherin House* during Harry's first six years of Hogwarts and, from the first, is hostile to Harry. He sees the boy as the personification of Harry's father, James*, whom he hated. This is partly because James had saved his life, and therfore put him under his debt, and partly through envy--he secretly loved Lily Potter. His unpleasant character is reflected in his unsavory appearance. His long and straight black hair is permananetly greasy and his skin is sallow, His frame under his teaching robes is thin. Though his knowledge of Potions is outstanding, he is a bully in the classroom, intimidating those he despises, such as Harry and Neville Longbottom, Even the brilliant Hermione is put down, seemingly because her parents are Muggles* and because she is a "know-it-all."
Snape is one of the most complex characters in children's literature. This is because, very often in the stories, appearances are deceptive, as Snape is a double agent, releying information both to Dumbledore and Voldemort and brilliantly prserving his cover. He plays a particulairy dominant role in the events covered in the last two books, the title of book six explicitly referring to his chosen nickname while a schoolboy__"the half-blood Prince." In DH, Snape is appointed headmaster of Hogwarts by Voldemort's regime, a mark of the Dark Lord's trsut in him, This allows him secretly to lessen the impact of the sway of Death Eaters on the school.
J.K.Rowling commented about him in an intervieuw given after the publication of the last book: " A very flawed hero. An anti-hero, perhaps. He is not a particularly likable man in many ways. He remains rather cruel, a bull, riddled with bitterness and insecurity-- and yet he loved, and showed loyatlty to that love and, ultimately, laid down his life because of it. That's pretty heroic!"
